Best Mac cleaner for Mac OS X 10.7 - clean up your Mac system junk files (caches, logs, trash) and remove unwanted applications completely for more disk space and better system performance. Free download Mac cleaner. ![]() Thanks niel, that was spot on. Obvious answer to a very obvious question i guess but i was afraid that as i don't have apple care and it's well out of warrentee that they would either charge me for them or try and convince me to upgrade to lion. But they did neither. Were very helpful and have sent out replacement discs free of charge! Kurt and allan, i have to disagree a little. When you accumulate as much stuff as i do in a year and now that finder or spotlight wont show results from system folders or prefs folders it would take me a lot longer to clean it up manually than it would do a clean install and be very sellective about what i stick back on from time machine. It's a few hours max to get it back to how i'd like it but also behaving like a brand new laptop. I also do regular maintanence with onyx (which is great as well). But that's just from my experience. Thanks for all the suggestions though. Download windows iso for mac. Transform all well-known pictures data to Iso file. Transform Apple DMG data to Iso file. Much apreciated! Some people have different needs and want a clean fast running machine. So they go the install route, which certainly does the trick. However there is a easier way(s) to go about it. 1: Once one has a pristine boot drive, to clone it using the free/donationware Carbon Copy Cloner to a blank external drive. One can simply hold the option key and boot from this drive, erasing the internal and reverse cloning. Nearly effortless. 2: For just user cleanup, create a new admin user, log into it and delete the old one, then optionally Disk Utility Erase Free Space with 0x or 7x to scrub the hard drive. OS X doesn't need to be defragmented as OS X does it on the fly for files under 2GB, however the boot drive can become de-optimized which slows performance. Hard drives are fastest in the first outter sectors and get slower on the data read/write on sectors close to the inner spindle. So if one could write Applications to the fast band, then System then Users on a blank drive, that would be ideal, especially after many software updates and installs. Also to free up disk space for partitioning/large file transfers. If one uses the Step #1 above after performing any manual cleanup (removing old programs/files/users etc) one can both optimize and defragment their boot drive in one shot. As CCC copies according to the alphabetical order of files on the root directory. Applications, Library, System and lastly Users (which is subject to the most changes to the drive) So it's not necessary to reinstall OS X and try to find copies of programs that might not have 10.6 versions anymore, have to setup everything all over again, just once every few years clean & clone, then reverse clone. Also keep another prisine clone (fresh 10.6.8 and all software, not used) so one can use that to revert too and simply transfer files they wish to keep from the used version. However it is ideal to copy one's 10.6 disk, because one day Apple won't sell it anymore.
